What a professional website actually costs in 2026, and why the cheap one costs more

Nobody publishes real numbers, so buyers compare a £400 Fiverr gig with a £40,000 agency pitch and conclude the whole industry is making it up. It is not. Here is how the price is built, and what each layer buys you.

We quote every project as a single fixed figure before any work begins. To do that honestly, we have to understand where the number comes from. So do you, if you are the one paying it. This is the breakdown we use internally.

The four things you are actually buying

1. Strategy

Who is the site for, what do they need to believe before they book, and what is the one action the page should drive? Skip this and you get a pretty brochure that nobody acts on. It is a conversation, usually under an hour, and it shapes every decision afterwards.

2. Design

Not "a template with your logo". Layout, type, colour, imagery and copy that make your business look like the obvious choice. This is where the difference between a site that gets enquiries and one that gets ignored is decided.

3. Build

Turning the design into fast, accessible, search-friendly code that works on every phone. Forms that go somewhere. Pages that load before the visitor's thumb leaves the screen. This is skilled work and it is the part most cheap quotes quietly skip.

4. Everything after launch

Hosting, monitoring, backups, security updates, the occasional "can you change the opening hours". A site is not a purchase, it is a running service. Someone has to run it.

Why the cheap quote is cheap

A very low price almost always means one of these: a template with your content pasted in, no strategy or copy (you supply the words), a developer who disappears at launch, or hosting you will be billed for separately and forever. None of those are dishonest. They are just a different product from the one you think you are buying.

TierWhat you getWho it suits

The maths that actually matters

Here is the only calculation worth doing. What is one new customer worth to you? For a clinic, a law firm, a specialist retailer, a software product, the answer is usually in the thousands. A site that brings in two more of those a month pays for itself in weeks, and keeps paying. A site that costs a quarter as much and brings in nobody is the expensive one.

Price is what you pay once. Conversion rate is what you pay every month, forever.

How we price

One fixed figure, agreed before we start, with the scope written down. No hourly surprises, no "that's extra" halfway through. Hosting and ongoing growth work are optional and month to month; you can walk away any time with your site intact.

We do not publish a rate card because every project is different and a number without context would mislead you in one direction or the other. What we will do is give you a real number within one business day of a 30-minute call. Book one and find out.

Next step

One call. We take it from there.
